Young people taking the Bible into other languages!

Author: Josema Oviedo
“Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers…” Paul said this to Timothy in one of his letters. Today, looking at the range of possibilities that the world constantly offers you, it is very difficult to make a decision that determines the course of the rest of your life. As young people, Pauli (my future wife) and I, we agree that if we are consistent with our faith in God, dedicating our lives to His mission is the least we can do for Him.

There are 7,378 languages in the world today, but only 717 of them have the complete Bible translated into their language. We believe that everyone has the right to hear God's revealed Word in His own language. For this reason, we have committed ourselves to God's mission to help more people to have the Word of God in their own language in every way possible. We know that Bible translation involves a long-term commitment, one that we dedicate our entire lives to the mission, but we are both happy that our lives serve God's purposes.

As young people, we know that one of the hardest things for our generation is committing to something long-term. Given the range of opportunities that life offers us, it scares us to think that we must close the door to the other options and opportunities to commit ourselves and focus on only one of them. But we can testify that the choice we made allows us to focus on God's purpose and fully enjoy our lives.

Committing yourself to God's mission in no way takes away the possibility of dreaming. Today, our dream is to reach the end of our life and have the joy of being able to witness how the Word of God impacted the people with whom we worked. They will know that God speaks their languages and that their church body is a part of the multicultural church of Christ.

Being part of God's mission is making a long-term commitment, but living and enjoying one day at a time.
